Vacuum Backed Casting

Vacuum backed shell moulding is used for large precision cast iron parts up to 100kg at medium volume production.  Our unique vacuum backed shell moulding process offers all the benefits of the standard shell process with the ability to cast larger more complex castings. This is possible because the moulds are supported at high pressure by vacuum pumps to prevent any mould failures. These pumps also aid gas removal and therefore help to produce high quality castings.

Right, is the backing plant in operation. The shells are lowered and surrounded by sand. This is placed under a vacuum. The moulds are then filled with metal. On the right is an example of a large product produced on the backing plant.
