What is 3D Sand Printing?
Toolless production of high precision foundry castings.
Newby Foundries’ 3D sand printing facility produces resin bonded sand moulds and cores for prototype and production metal castings in many grades of iron, steel and aluminium.
Our 3D printing processes are suitable for rapid prototyping as costly tooling is not required and even the most complex cores and moulds can be produced in a matter of hours. The layer thickness of 0.28mm allows for a good surface finish, close to that of a tooled casting.
Our 3D sand printer can also offer a cost-effective and convenient method of producing production castings due to the large 1800 x 1000 x 700mm bed size with 1,260 litre capacity.
Sand printing is especially suited to higher complexity applications. It offers many additional benefits including high dimensional control, design freedoms such as undercuts, complex one-piece core assemblies and multiple design configurations.

3D Sand Printing Technology
3D sand printing technology allows Newby Foundries’ moulds and cores to be modelled in CAD/CAM software, enabling us to quickly and easily develop and modify designs. Once validated, designs can be sent for printing immediately without requiring any lengthy toolmaking processes.
Our system uses Furan resins for sand binding during this process. This is highly compatible with a wide range of metal types; therefore, we can utilise 3D sand printing across all of our sand foundry sites.
Our 3D printing service can reduce costs and lead times, as well as alleviating issues associated with tooling, such as lost, broken or worn tooling or where tooling availability is limited. Our expert team is on hand to advise on the most appropriate mould and core manufacturing process for your project specifications, with 3D sand printing being suitable for both low and high volume runs.
