What is Airset Moulding?

Make unique specifications possible, from increased casting sizes to precision prototypes, with airset moulding.

Newby Foundries offers precision airset casting, or no-bake moulding, across our casting facilities for iron, steel, aluminium and zinc material.

Our airset casting capabilities allow us to carry out larger castings for low to medium volume runs or high volumes of smaller parts, as well as achieving cost-sensitive projects and prototype requirements.

Newby Foundries’ decades of expertise and establishment, paired with our commitment to innovation and investment in the latest technology, ensures improved quality, efficiency of processes, and exact dimensional control for your castings.

We can do this for all types of projects, with vast experience as a Tier 1 supplier to an array of industries, including automotive, EV, marine, engineering and many more.

Airset Moulding Service

For our airset casting service, Newby Foundries utilises both Furan and Phenolic resins, available in various grades across our sites. Our ability to offer both methods ensures we’re able to match your project specifications with the right casting process.

Airset moulding uses a self-setting sand mixture, meaning the mould sets at room temperature. We use hand rammed, chemically bonded sand to improve dimensional accuracy, mould strength and the casting finish.

This service is complemented by Newby Foundries’ machining and finishing operations, ensuring we can handle projects of all complexities from design to prototyping, production and delivery.

For technical specifications varying by material ; see Iron Casting, Steel Casting or Aluminium Casting.

In-House, Fully Accredited Casting

Airset casting is delivered as an in-house operation at Newby Foundries, across our Iron Casting, Steel Casting and Aluminium Casting branches.

Newby Foundries Iron Casting – Utilising an airset track for moulds up to 1000mm wide, with a fast loop under construction for large moulds.

Newby Foundries Steel Casting – Working with an airset track for moulds up to 1000mm wide and floor moulding for larger castings up to 850kg.

Newby Foundries Aluminium Casting (& Zinc) – Utilising an airset track for moulds up to 1200mm wide and floor moulding for castings up to 200kg or moulds up to 2000 x 2000mm.

Cost-effective tooling can be provided, either produced from resin in various densities and CNC cut for high accuracy and durability, or from wood, which is more cost-effective when viable for the material. All complexity of tooling is achievable, including compact frames with integral running systems and loose patterns without frames.

This service is always carried out in line with industry regulation and quality standards, with Newby Foundries offering a fully accredited operation. This includes IATF 16944 and ISO 9001.
