Want to discuss Gravity Die Casting?

What is Gravity die casting?

Exacting precision for aluminium and zinc castings up to 25kg with Newby Foundries’ gravity die casting process.

It is most suitable for medium to high volume runs where it is incredibly cost effective due to a lower unit cost compared to competing processes.

The gravity die process produces highly repeatable and dimensionally accurate castings to a CT7 tolerance with a very smooth surface finish of Ra 3.2 µm.

While working with Newby Foundries, we will advise on the right casting process for your project based on the specification requirements, ensuring your project is set up for success from its initiation.

Our experienced team is adept at overseeing all types of foundry projects and we provide a Tier 1 managed supply for even the most complex jobs, throughout the UK and around the world.

Our Gravity Die Casting Process

The gravity die casting process is also known as “permanent mould”, it utilises reuseable iron moulds, into which molten metal is poured, filling the die using gravity rather than another external force such as a vacuum.

This process can be used in conjunction with sand cores to produce cavities that would not otherwise be mouldable. It is also possible for threaded inserts to be placed in the dies and fused with the castings during solidification. This eliminates the requirement for the feature to be machined in post-casting and creates a stronger and more durable thread.

Newby Foundries have in-house controlled flow tilt pour equipment, a rotary degassing unit and heat treatment facilities. They allow us to produce various grades of aluminium and zinc to a high specification in terms of both integrity and metallurgy.

For technical specifications by material, see our Aluminium Casting and Zinc Casting materials pages.
